Māia’s 2 Million – Episode Five

Tena koutou katoa, I hope everyone has had a great start to the year.

My first month back came with a lot of excitement. I attended a workshop by John Bissell that the Taranaki Kiwi Trust in partnership with Wild for Taranaki.

It was an opportunity to meet some awesome people who attended from different conservation groups including, Rotokare Scenic Reserve, Taranaki Maunga Project, Te Kohanga Ahuru, East Taranaki Environmental Trust, South Taranaki Forest and Bird, Parininihi Ki Waitotara, Wild for Taranaki, Taranaki Regional Council and many private landowners.

Since the workshop, I have been trying new baits and filing trap entrances, and shuffling them around to attract more pests, recently I checked a big trapline we have in Omoana and got thirteen stoats in one day! I’ve checked thirteen of our traplines since our break, so my step count this month was 168,566 which brings me up to a total of 642,073 so far!
